When I create a new project it asks me "what team is this for?"

I want to choose one of the team I created (and not one of the default teams).

How can I do that? can I change it later?

Hi Yotam - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

@Jane Yeoh  - Can you explain the team field a little better? I have created Teams as well that do not show up when creating a new JWM project.

Hi @Yotam Elal

Can I just clarify that this is what you're referring to? If it is, then you can add a team just by entering a new one into the text box.

This question is basically for us to understand who our users are for JWM and isn't related to the teams who work within the project.

To create a team within your project, you can do this here:

In the People dropdown (top nav) > Start a team > Set team name and invite team members > Start team. Learn more about teams here: https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-account/docs/what-is-an-atlassian-team/

Hope that helps!

Hi @Jane Yeoh - I think the problem is (at least for me) that I have created other teams already. For example, one is called IAM. I can tag that team in comments (@IAM) and it works fine.

But that team does not show up in the drop down when I am creating a new JWM project. I don't want to create a new IAM as it already exists.

Hi @John Funk , the dropdown shown above is a separate system than the "Teams" function that you're familiar with. As Jane said, we added that "feature" to have better data collection around which teams are using Jira Work Management. Any "Team" that you make within Jira Cloud will not be represented in that dropdown.

You could think of the "What team is this for?" dropdown as instead saying "What type of team is this for?".

Hope that helps!

@Chase Wilson  - thanks for the clarification! Had a feeling that was going to be the answer - that it was a separate groups of teams that what is used in other places. Is there any other functionality built around the Team field? Or is it just to capture some data?

@John Funk purely for data capture for our team! It's not actually hooked into anything. You can feel comfortable entering (or not entering) information into that box with no ramifications to your system or setup.
