Team-managed project: how do you allow Jira Automation to update a restricted status?

Sara Tucker April 5, 2024

We have a restriction rule added on the workflow in a team-management work management project to limit who can transition into "In Progress". Also built automation to help automatically update the ticket into "In Progress" but that automation is failing with this error "No transitions found for user. Ensure that the rule actor has permission (including issue security levels) to see issue and perform transitions."

When trying to add Automation for Jira as an actor that is allowed, there doesn't seem to be a way to add that "user" anywhere. Tried adding it in the rule, tried adding it on the project with a role, tried creating a group with that user in the group... that actor doesn't appear as an option in any of those places.

Any other ideas or workarounds? Or is this user error and I missed something?

Hi, @Sara Tucker

Since the "Automation for Jira" is not pickable in the restriction rule, an option would be to set the actor user in the automation rule to a user that does have permission to transition the issue.

Best,
