Set and hide Summary during issue creation?

In cloud, I am looking to set the summary field to a default value and hide it during issue creation.

  • Setting the summary on the create screen is also an option - if possible.

We can do this with scriptrunner on server, but are we able to do this out of the box with Jira automation or cloud post functions?

Thanks for any feedback!

Jonathan

You can not do this, and you shouldn't be doing it either.  The summary field is the most important field that a human puts into an issue when they raise it, and it's not automatable deliberately, because the field is there for the humans to summarise what they are asking for.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

 We have a function outside of Jira that we are trying to incorporate into Jira.

  • We only want users to fill out 3 fields on their create screen.
  • We don't use Summary for reporting purposes for this issue type.

Example:

My business units want their create screen to be as clean as possible, so while I understand Summary is required, I am looking for a way to prepopulate it and potentially hide it (like how we handle this with ScriptRunner).

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to share.

Hi Jonathan,

The only way I know to do it is to get Jira Service Management and create your form there. Then you can hide a field (even Summary) and give it a predetermined value so the create will still happen.

@John Funk Darn. No, we would be only using Jira Work Management. Thanks for your time.
