Hi guys hope you can help :) I'm using JIRA SOFTWARE to track and manage development projects. I need to include all departments (production, DEV, purchasing and operations) in JIRA. I CURRENTLY use JIRA SOFTWARE for the DEV. Is there a workflow for hardware production? Is it possible that I use JIRA MANAGEMENT for this? As ? Is there a workflow to follow my hardware production tasks?

I'd strongly recommend reading the release notes for each version (5.2, 6.0, but you can skim the point releases as they're generally minor tweaks and bug fixes), and testing the process several times, but yes, your upgrade plan can be as simple as:

  • Tell users to get out
  • Backup
  • Install new version (I usually pre-install it separately from the old one)
  • Copy stuff from home directory on old system to new one
  • Point new version at old database (ideally, a copy, so you can revert quickly if it goes bang)
  • Start new version
  • Wait as it'll do the entire upgrade for you
  • Test
  • Tell users it's ready

But seriously, test the process. A lot.

Thanks Nic,

we intend to trial the upgrade on a 'Development' server first, then repeat the process on our Prod system out of hours.

But yes I will be taking your suggestion to do that trial a few times over !

cheers

Nick
