Jira project defaults to "List" instead of "Board"

Recently Jira cloud made a change where if you open a project, it shows issues in a List View instead of Board view as default.
Is there a way to change the default to Board view again?

The landing page when accessing a project is currently, not something that can be set by administrators.

There is a feature request suggesting the implementation of this ability:

In my case, it defaults to Board view but I want it to default to List view. I find it very odd that this is not configurable per instance, per project or not even saved as a user preference (via cookie). Is it really fixed behaviour?
