I'm experiencing issues with uploading icons to the project settings. The icons appear very pixelated, even though I've exported them at high resolutions and tried different formats such as PNG and JPEG. Unfortunately, the platform does not allow SVG file uploads. I've experimented with various sizes on the artboard, but the icons remain pixelated. I use Adobe Illustrator.

I've also been following the recommendations on this page: Atlassian UI Kit Components: Icon and adhering to the specified sizes, but the final result is always pixelated. Below are some examples to illustrate the issue.

The default icons from Jira are not blurry; they are sharp and crisp, which is the result I aim to achieve with my icons. How can I improve this? What export settings should I use? Are there any pages or guides you have with detailed steps regarding size and file format?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Gabriela,

Welcome to the community!

This is quite a common frustration! Even when you create sharp, high-resolution images, they can sometimes appear pixelated in Jira's interface.

Here are a few tips I follow that might help:

1. Size and Format:

  • Recommended Size: While you've been following the Atlassian UI Kit guidelines, try creating your icons at exactly 48x48 pixels. This is the size Jira often uses for project icons, so starting at the native resolution might help.
  • PNG Format: Stick with PNG format, as it generally handles icons with transparency better than JPEG.

2. Export Settings (Illustrator):

  • Anti-Aliasing: When exporting from Illustrator, make sure "Anti-aliasing" is set to "Art Optimised" or "Type Optimised." This helps smooth out edges.
  • Resolution: Even though the icon is small, try setting the export resolution to a higher value, like 150 or 300 pixels per inch (PPI).

3. Jira's Display Limitations:

  • Scaling: Keep in mind that Jira might still scale down your icons depending on where they're displayed (project sidebar, dashboards, etc.). This scaling process can sometimes introduce pixelation.
  • Caching: Jira might be caching an older, lower-resolution version of your icon. Try clearing your browser cache or hard-refreshing the page (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) to see if that helps.

If all else fails:

Hope this helps!
