Combining projects boards into one timeline

Sam Palmer-Granville May 31, 2024
Hello,
I'm new to Jira & I'm hoping someone is able to help answer a query for me.
We have set up several Projects. All the Board titles have the same task / card titles - To do, In Progress & Done.
We'd really like to combine all of the boards/projects so we can view due dates on one timeline.
When I click on Jira home & go to - Your Work - Boards - View all boards - a message tells me I don't have any boards & I can create one using Scrum or Kanban.
But, when I click on the individual project, I can see the board.
All projects are 'team managed' projects.
I'd really appreciate any help you're able to give me to combine our boards across one timeline. If we could also combine all projects onto one board that would also be helpful.
Many thanks!

Hi @Sam Palmer-Granville , welcome to the Community. The boards presented under Your work/Boatds are associated with any Company Managed Projects. team managed projects are not displayed there. If you wish to create a single board that displays the issues for all TMP project you could do so but the solution is not ideal. To create such a board do the following:

  1. Create a JQL filter that represents your projects, e.g. project in (tmp1, tmp2, tmp3...). Save the filter.
  2. in view all boards click create board
  3. choose Kanban
  4. choose to create board using existing filter
  5. follow the rest of the prompts and choose your profile when prompted for Location

once the board is created you can add a shortcut to the board in each of your projects. This will allow you and others to access the 'master board' from any individual project.

Thanks for your welcome & reply Jack.

If the solution (Kanban) isn't ideal, would you suggest a better way of sorting it from scratch?

We're at the point where it might be frustrating to start again, but now is the time to do it. Before, we add more tasks to each project.

Hi @Sam Palmer-Granville , Team managed projects are, IMO, best for simple self-contained projects. However, the board proposed above may work for you. I guess it comes down to what your requirements are. If you can articulate exactly what you hope to achieve and how the team will work together, I may be able to offer further guidance.

Thanks Jack.

We decided to delete the 6 projects & create one project. We created categories to decipher between the different projects. This has enabled us to have one board & one timeline to view all tasks.

We needed a very simple solution. Jira offers much more than we need, but we like the timeline hence choosing it to work with.

Thanks for your help!
