The timeline chart shows a bar for each item's due date. But I have hundreds of them and each window view shows only a few. Is there a way to sort? I saw the filter function but that's not enough.
Yes, you can sort the timeline chart in Jira Service Management Cloud.
To sort the items in the timeline chart, you can use the "Order by" option in the chart configuration. Here's how to do it:
Go to your Jira Service Management project and click on the "Reports" tab.
Click on the "Timeline" report.
Click on the "Configure" button in the top-right corner of the screen.
In the configuration panel, scroll down to the "Order by" section.
Click on the dropdown menu and select the field that you want to sort by (e.g., due date).
Choose the sorting order (ascending or descending).
Click on the "Update" button to apply the changes.
Once you've sorted the items in the timeline chart, you can easily navigate through them using the scroll bar at the bottom of the chart.
Thanks! But I could not find the configure button.
In the top right area I have "Today", "Share", "Export", "Filter", "...More". The "...More" includes only one option to show or hide done items. The "Filter" shows drop down menus from several issue level fields. I still could not find a "Configure" button.
More help? Thank you!

Did you manage to do it? I believe you and I are using Jira Work Management instead of "Service Management Cloud" as the original response. No?

Now I finally remember what I was asking!!! No, I still cannot sort in the timeline chart. My company does not subscribe the "Jira Service Management" (That is not free correct?). Within Jira Work Management I use filters do sort that way.

I understand you may still use Jira Service Management for free if below 10 users. It does not offer the one-stop-shop view that Work Management offers, but it is quite powerful still. You can achieve similar results, but someone has to build it up a bit.
Anyways... I can't sort by date either... but the filters you mention may come in handy.
