I was wondering if there’s a way to have Jira or an add-on automatically update an excel file with data that pulls from fields in Jira?
we have an excel file that has a general format that is the same for all our issues and we always add information from a handful of fields in Jira on each issue. Is there a way to have the system automatically update our Excel file? Or maybe some add-on that performs something like this?
Hi @Jon
I think this option is there for google sheets but it's still a feature request for Excel auto update from Jira Cloud
Here is the feature request you can vote here https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/API-206
as FYI there is an article mentioning the auto refresh of google sheets here https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Jira-Cloud-for-Google-Sheets-Automatically-Refresh-Your-Data/ba-p/1200264?utm_source=atlcomm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=immediate_general_comment&utm_content=topic

@Jon You can use the Better Excel Automation app to solve this!
The app extends standard Jira Cloud automation rules with Excel exporting capability. In your use case, you could use the app this way:
Here is how an automatically exported XLSX looks like when attached to an issue:
It is a bit different direction from your original idea, but it can work equally well (or even better).
(Discl. this app is developed and supported our team.)

When you have a tool like Jira, you should really look to define your format in Jira so it can be the master for all your issues, otherwise what is the point of having Jira?
