Automatic email sending to a context field

Alberto Torrejón May 23, 2024

Hello.
I am trying to create a rule that automatically sends mail by taking the email address from a context field of a card, but when doing so it sends me an error that says that the field is empty and it is not. Can you help me? Thank you.

Hi @Alberto Torrejón

For a question like this, please post an image of your complete automation rule, images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches, an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution, and explain what is not working as expected.  Those will provide context for the community to offer ideas.  Thanks!

Until we see those...

You appear to be using a Jira Work Management project, and probably a People type field.  Those fields do not have email address values in automation rules.  Please see these suggestions to improve that:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/AUTO-421
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/AUTO-519

One workaround for this limitation is to create a user-picker field in global settings for company-managed projects, and then add that field to your work management project.  Rules will then have access to the email address.

Kind regards,
Bill
