It's absolutely shocking that there does not appear to be good support for scheduled tasks, and I'm wondering what third party add-ins people are using for this.

Here's a wish list:

Ideally, the add-in should work like an Outlook calendar, in that the tasks should be connected to the template using an additional field, (not links otherwise the template will have too many links).

The plug-in should also allow you to specify how far in advance the issues should be created. i.e. this is a monthly task starting on the first of the month, there should be 6 months of the task created at all times. This is so if you are looking ahead at things that need to be done, all of your recurring tasks, would show up.

Due date should be based on the schedule, and a start date should be set based on an estimated time in the template.

Some kind of templating in the description, and or the title. i.e. would like to be able to have items named "Client Review - {YYYY} {QQ}", so you can easily see all instances of the Task.

Has anyone found something that works well for that?

Hello @Benjamin Peikes!

I’m Oleksandra, the Product Manager of Smart Templates at TitanApps. I came across your request and am excited to share that our app offers the features you’re looking for!

With Smart Templates, you can create and schedule issue templates with ease. Here's what you can do:

  • Set up CRON jobs or regular interval schedules for your templated issues.
  • View a list of future runs to see how far in advance issues will be created.

  • Configure date fields in your issues based on the schedule date (e.g., set a due date 10 days after the schedule date) and use these dates in text fields like the summary or description.

  • Access a list of all created issues to quickly check their status, creation date, or assignee.

We offer a 30-day trial, so feel free to explore the app or book a demo with our product team.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! 😊

Looking for some recommendations from people who have used some of these add ons.

I’ve done the research, looking for first hand experience.

I understand your dilemma.

I know there are some apps that handle scheduled tasks, but I have not used any of them myself. Here are a few I found using this search:

Recurring Tasks for Jira Cloud

Repeating Issues

Issue scheduler - plan recurring tasks

We have, but dont want to hand craft an Automation for every repeating Task.

We could probably build something using a new type called Repeating Task and custom fields, but would rather something well tested.

I’d expect a platform that is meant to automate business processes to have something built in that works like an outlook calendar.

Im also not sure Automation could do something like that.

Hello @Benjamin Peikes

I'm just curious if you have looked at generating tasks on a schedule using the native Automation Rules feature, and if so, how that does not meet your needs?
