May updates are in full bloom 💐 Import, link to Confluence, and more

Hi everyone! We’re still reminiscing on an amazing Team '23. Did you stop by the JWM booth? Say hello in the comments if you met us in person!

Meanwhile, the team’s been hard at work delivering even more exciting updates to your business projects.

Import your work

Working across multiple tools, formats, and processes? It can get complicated tracking what’s actually getting done. Get ready to supercharge your productivity by bringing your tasks into Jira Work Management.

Upload a CSV, map the fields in your file, and start connecting your tasks to the cross-functional work being done across teams in Jira.

Get an overview

ICYMI: Overviews are here! If you use Jira Work Management with Jira Software Premium, have you tried them yet?

When you manage tasks across multiple business projects, want to bring a team’s ongoing work together, or need to report on cross-functional initiatives, overviews give you a look into how the work is tracking. Plus, manage dependencies and due dates with timeline and calendar views.

Coming soon: Confluence links in board view

Surfacing relevant context saves you time answering questions before they even come up.

Soon, you’ll be able to link Confluence pages from your Jira Work Management boards. See which tasks are tied to major project plans, meeting notes, documentation, and more.

Can you provide the documentation around the new "CSV Import" functionality? A couple of things are jumping out at me:

  • The video above implies this functionality is part of the "project creation" wizard, which seems an odd choice. Can you only use this to import work into a new project?
  • The old CSV importer had a lot of undocumented nuances; is this reliant on that in the backend? If so, what steps have been taken to fix things like date mismatch problems or the....uh...unique method to import sub-tasks?
  • There is apparently an option to create new custom fields as part of the import and I want to make sure this is restricted to site admins if working in a company-managed project.
  • Is this restricted to JWM projects?

When are these features to be released? I do not see them in my current JWM

Hi @Haddon Fisher! Thanks for your questions. Let me know if this helps:

  • We're starting off with importing into new projects right now but definitely know that you'd want to be able to import to existing projects too.
  • This feature currently doesn't support hierarchies in CSV import but we're working on improving the subtask import experience.
  • Yes, only site admins can import into a company managed project and create custom fields.
  • This is currently only available for JWM projects but we have plans to expand that.

Here's more documentation! https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/import-data-into-a-business-project/

@Crystal Richards and @Dione Paulo, overviews are currently available if you use Jira Work Management with Jira Software Premium. If you don't see the import flow yet, stay tuned! We're in the process of rolling it out to all users.
