want to make one custom field as an optional , what are the steps

created one custom field "DVV " however it become as mandatory field i want to make it Optional

Is this a Company-managed or Team-managed Project?

General things I'd check below!

Company-managed (Creation):

It depends where the field is mandatory - if it's at creation, it might be mandatory in the field configuration scheme, to check this:

• Go to your Project, and select Project Settings in the bottom-left corner
• Select Summary from the left-hand menu
• Click on the Field Configuration, under the sub-title Fields
• Locate the relevant field in the list, and check if it has "Yes" in the column "Required"

If it does, you have two options:

• Edit the Config to make it optional
• Create a new Config/Scheme, and apply it to your Project, making the field optional. This is a good approach if the Field Config is used by multiple Projects, and you only want this field optional in one/some of them

Check out these help pages on how to create, edit, and change field configurations. These pages also detail how to locate the Field Configuration in the admin settings if you prefer (Settings > Issues > Field Configurations).

Company-managed (Status Change):

If the field is mandatory either before you change the status, or during the transition, you might have a condition or validator.

To check this:

• Go to Settings (cog-icon in top-right) > Issues
• Select Workflows from the left-hand menu
• Locate your Workflow
• On the right-hand side of the Workflow's row, select the breadcrumbs (...) > Edit
• Click on each transition and check if in the pop-up box, there are any conditions and/or validators
• Check these to see if they're requiring a field is entered, specifically the DVV field

If yes, you have two options:

• Remove them, and publish the Workflow again
• Create a new Workflow/Scheme, for similar reasons as above

Note: If you're using the new workflow editor and the condition/validator is not shown, switch back to the old editor instead.

Team-managed (Creation):

If the Project is Team-managed, and the field is required at creation, check this:

• Go to Project Settings (bottom-left corner)
• Select Issue Types from the left-hand menu
• Select the Issue Type you added the field to
• Open the field's details using the ">" button on the right-hand side
• Ensure the Required checkbox is unticked
• Repeat these steps for each Issue Type

Team-managed (Status Change)

To check this:

• Go to Project Settings (bottom-left corner)
• Select Issue Types from the left-hand menu
• Select the Issue Type you added the field to
• Select the Edit Workflow button near the top of the screen
• Check on each transition if there are any rules, specifically the rule "Restrict to when a field is a specific value"
• Remove the rule if not needed

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information can be seen at the bottom of the panel on the left when viewing the project, and on the View all projects page under the Projects menu.

Depending on the type of project there are different ways that a field may become Required.

Are you required to fill in the field when you create a new issue?

Are you required to fill in the field in order to change the status of the issue?
