using jira ticket create from email, update fields

Christopher Pearson May 5, 2019

I'm looking to send automated emails to Jira email but i wanted to be able to also update some of the fields that are associated with the project's ticket. Is there a way for me to send this through when i send email?

I'm Using Jira Cloud, I think it's 'Jira Software' is what i see when i hover over the icon.

Hello Christopher,

Can you please confirm if you are using JIRA Cloud or Server? Also, which JIRA application you are using (Core, Software or Service Desk)?

Unfortunately, JIRA only allows the update of three fields when creating issues by e-mail:

- Summary: E-mail Subject

- Description: E-mail Body

- Request Participants/Watcher: Cc address

To add extra fields, you will need to use an app like the Email This Issue, where you can add new fields and custom fields in the e-mail body with a specific Syntax.

If you would like me to provide you more Apps, please let us know the information requested regarding your JIRA instance so I can better refine my search and give you the best options.

Let me know if this information helps.

I updated my question to show it's for Jira Software, Cloud.

Are there any Free solutions?

Also, It appears that the software is missing a lot of things that seem as if they should be standard. It would probably be easier for me to create my own apps, vs trying to get approval for my use cases for a paid app that would create a recurring charge, especially if i'm the only one using it. Do you know where I could get into tutorials on developing apps?

Hello Christopher,

Thank you for your detailed answer.

Unfortunately, there are no free solutions for the functionality you are looking for, unless you create your own app, as you mentioned.

Besides this, can you please provide us what other features are missing for you? Maybe I can help you to find an option that would work.

You can check the documentation below to get started in App development using Atlassian connect:

Let us know if you still have any questions.
