hi team,
I'm using jira server version for my work. Kindly help in clarifying below scenario.
I have one user story, with 3 tasks. I want to assign story points to these tasks, which roll up to define story points for a user story.
For eg. task 1= 2points, task 2= 3points , task 3= 2 points
So, story points of my user story automatically would roll up to be 2+3+2=7points
Is this automatic accumulation possible in agile jira? Please share relevant documentation if any.
Thanks
Ashima
Hello @Ashima Bhatia
Jira does not automatically roll up story points from subtasks to parent issues. You can customize Jira by creating an Automation Rule that would do that.
However, story points are not typically assigned to subtasks. Rather they are assigned to the parent issue as a method to estimate the effort of the story overall. Typically time is used to estimate subtasks instead of story points.
Hi,
We don't work alot with sub-tasks so not sure if this is done out of the box in Jira, but I did setup something similar with Jira automation where the SP added to an issue in an epic were automatically added to a custom "total points" field for a project (theme / initiative)
