If i create a field Number of comments in a project . that field should automatically show the number of comments that have been added to the ticket in project. 

Any suggestions or possibilities on this ?

You could use an Automation Rule to update such a field using the smart value to get the current count of comments on the issue:

{{issue.comments.size}}
