Who was assigned a ticket when it was IN PROGRESS?

Steve Farrand February 28, 2024

I want a filter / report / dashboard to know who was assigned to a ticket when it was in progress. So who worked on it and when.

The tickets are now (mostly) in DONE, assigned to the last person who tested it.

Any tips?

Hi @Steve Farrand

It can be helpful to check the History tab under the Activity section if you are interested in a particular ticket. You can find all the assignees who were working on a ticket there.

For multiple issues, you can check Issue History for Jira app. My team has developed it as a journal of all past activities. So, you can include the status and assignee column to get the report of changes. It is not the perfect solution for your case, but it can be a workaround.

Hi Steve,

You will need to create a custom field of user picker type and populate that field with the Assignee when the issue is moved into the In Progress status.

can I then use automation to retrospectively populate that field?

Where do I begin "create a custom field of user picker type " ?

No because you won’t be able to write a JQL query to get that. But you would at least be able to populate it manually.

Go to Settings (gear icon on top right) > Issues > Custom Fields. You will need to be a Jira Administrator to do that.

Hello @Steve Farrand ,

If you are open to using an application specifically tailored to your needs, Time in Status which is developed by my team at OBSS, is the tool I would highly recommend. It is available for both Jira Cloud, and Data Center.

Time in Status provides the Assignee Duration Per Status report for your case.

Using this report you can easily see who is assigned to an issue in a particular status. The most important feature of this report is that if an issue is assigned to more than one assignee in a status, it shows all assigned assignees in turn. Please see the screenshot below.

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well. Time in Status reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts.  Also you can export the reports in to various formats easily.

Visit Time in Status to explore how our JIRA add-on can revolutionize your reporting process. Enjoy a 30-day free trial to experience the full range of features.

If you wish, you can also schedule a live demo. We will provide a comprehensive overview of the application and address any inquiries you may have.

Kind Regards,

Gizem

Hi @Steve Farrand

If you would be interested in a mktplace app to get this data, pls take a look at an app we have developed.

Issue History Reports

The app provides the complete historical changelog of the issue. Hope this helps.
