Where to start: Admin training or jump right into Workflow training

I've been given Jira admin responsibilities (with no training) and can see how workflows for kanban or sprints can really help improve our current processes. However, I've been struggling with getting workflows to work. Would you recommend I take the admin courses first to understand 'under the hood' workings of Jira, or can I just jump into the $39 workflow training I saw posted earlier. I need to get our workflows working properly ASAP!

Thanks,

Hi @Rebecca Johnson ,

I'd recommend to start with the documentation and to try with a test project. E.g.:

Create and manage issue workflows and issue workflow schemes

Define the lifecycle of your work and learn about issue workflow schemes and the issue collector.

The admin trainings are great and it may be better to understand how Jira works as a whole system. That said,  I'd recommend to have some hands-on experience when you take it as the information can be a little bit overwhelming.

You can start looking at some (free) trainings here.

And for specific questions, feel free to use the Community! :-)

Is there anyone in your organization that knows Jira and that could do some knowledge transfer?

@Rebecca Johnson hi!

In addition to what @Carlos Garcia Navarro suggested, I would simply tell you that Atlassian itself propose that someone can (possibly) be qualified for becoming a Jira admin, after he/she has already an experience as an admin for 1-2 year. So, if your bosses/colleagues have any expectations of you, straight out, then just tell this.
