I would like to have my tickets automatically update the status when they move into a specific sprint. I got my sprint board setup as followed, backlog, refined sprint, future sprint, and active sprint.
Ideally I would like to create an automation when a ticket gets dragged from the backlog to the refined sprint, the status automatically gets changed to "Refined".
At the moment I have no idea how to do this with automation in Jira and if this specific use case is even possible. So that's why I'm laying out the problem here.
With kind regards,

Status is not a field you can enter, it's an indication of where an issue is in the workflow. You can't edit status, you have to transition issues from one status to another.
Automation can do this, you have to select a "transition" action instead of an "update field". Where I think you might be stuck is on the actual trigger for the Automation - at their most basic, an Automation is "when X happens, do Y (with/to) Z".
I don't think Automation can detect "issue moved into sprint" and act on it. You'd also need a second automation to move the issue back to its old status if someone takes it out of a sprint - and bear in mind that a lot of scrum teams will be jostling issues in and out of a sprint while planning it, so you probably don't really want to be doing this anyway.
