Unable to create stories, task/bug

Shreshta Sunkari September 7, 2021

I have not been able to create any stories, tasks or bugs in few of my JIRA projects (Company Software ones)

Error - Pick another user as the selected user does not exist.
The error does not seem right as I'm using only my username for all user fields and needless to say I'm an active user for all the projects.

The message would seem to indicate that the field "Sys Admin Approvers" is a User Picker field and does not have a valid value. If you are getting the message after clicking Create, then I believe this message is being generated by a Validator rule in the Create Issue Workflow assigned to your project.

Is the Sys Admin Approvers field on your screen?

Is there a Validator rule in your workflow that is checking the value of that field?

@Shreshta Sunkari

Can you confirm that the Sys Admin Approvers field is on the screen and set to your user?

Can you check the Create transition in the workflow and see if there is a Validator rule for the field?

Thank you Trudy.

I had the field Sys Admin Approvers field in one of the projects and somehow it was hindering creation of issues in my current project. I hid it on that screen and that helped me to create issues.

Hi, @Shreshta Sunkari - is anyone else able to create tickets in these projects?

The first thing I would check is the permissions for this specific project. Go to Project Settings -> Permissions and look at the Assignable User permission. Is your account a member of a group or role listed in this permission?

You can also use the Permission Helper button at the top right; enter your username and choose an existing ticket in one of the projects, then choose Assignable User and click Submit.

It will return information about why you might or might not have the correct access.2021-09-07 15_29_58-Permission helper - The Jira of Champions.png

Thank you Esther. I do have admin privileges for the projects.

I observed that I face this issue when I create any story/task in a "Company managed software" type of project. I'm able to successfully create tasks in a "Company managed business" or "Team managed software" project types. The permissions for creating issues in all of my projects regardless of project type are the same.

Just to clarify that project admin permissions does not by default mean that you have access to create issues in a project, nor that you have the Assignable User access. However, if you've checked and you definitely have all of those, does your username have any special symbols in it? There's an open bug related to that, if so.

Thank you Esther. I was able to troubleshoot based on a response that pointed that there could be a field causing this error.
