Swimlane expand/collapse greyed out on Scrum board

Having an issue with swimlanes showing stories and sub-tasks on a scrum board project. When selecting a filter that includes a "component", we see this issue. When using a filter for project only, it works just fine. Have checked board settings and can not determine the root cause for this. Please offer trouble shooting advice. Thank you

You say that the problem occurs when you use a filter that includes Component. Do all the stories and sub-tasks have the Component value assigned to them on which the filter is based?

We thought that might be the issue, added Component to the sub-task and the issue is resolved.
