Start Date in the Jira tickets not being updated when changing Start Date in Timeline?

Sara Chaves March 4, 2024

Good afternoon, I am trying to use the Timeline in Jira, to be my quarterly roadmap for my team, but the Start Date is not being update in this two use cases:

- On the ticket I fill the Start Date and Due Date, and for some reason when I go to the Timeline, the Start Date is marked as "No Start Date" when it is filled on the ticket.

- If I put the Start Date and Due Date on the timeline, and then I go to the ticket, the Due Date is filled but the Start Date is empty.

Can someone help me?

Hello @Sara Chaves

It is likely that the "Start Date" field in your issues is not the same "Start Date" field used by the Timeline.

With the basic Timeline feature available in the Standard subscription you must use the native, System defined "Start date" field.

Jira does not prevent the creation of custom fields with identical names, since it assigns a unique ID to the field in the back end. So you probably do not have the correct "start date" field associated with your issues.

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information will show at the bottom of the panel on the left when you are viewing the project. The method for associating the field to the project is different between the two.
