Restrict Github Pull Requests Based upon Fixed Version

Adam Hasselgren September 12, 2022

So I'm guessing this is more of a Github questions but hoping some folks in this group may know.

Problem:  I'm trying to build a release management process in my company and one of the struggles I'm having is developers checking in code that's not approved for a release.  I currently have the "Fixed Version" field in Jira restricted to only members in the release management group can edit it.  That field indicates what has been accepted for a release.  I would like to enforce two rules:

  • Require the developer to only start PRs through Jira (to ensure the ticket # is there)
  • Only allow PRs where the Fix Version field is not null.

I have no idea where to start or how to do it.  I'm also very green with Github but can get the access I need to make any changes.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Hi,

This is Majid @ Exalate.

Have you considered a third party integration solution to synchronize your Github instance to Jira bidirectionally. If not, I would urge you to look at Exalate where you will be able to sync PRs. The app provides you fully customizable synchronization between Github PRs and issues,  to tickets in Jira.

Please feel free to book a customized demo if you would like to see the product in action.

Thanks

Majid

Thanks for the suggestion Majid but I'm really trying to figure out an OOB solution to my problem.
