I have a series of scripts which utilize the REST API to update JIRA issues based on a number of criteria, but each change is resulting in the "Issue Update" trigger firing and generating quite a bit of email. Clearly, it's possible to make changes without firing emails - I can do manual "bulk changes" and no emails fire. The question is whether it can be done via the API?

This is not possible with JIRA (out of the box)
