Restricting a field to a specific user group

Hi,

I want to restrict a custom field say "Planned version" only to be filled by managers. I tried this method in this article https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/restrict-field-editing-to-specific-user-1189510558.html

It did work as expected but only caveat is the field planned version shows in view screen only when filled.

Is that the expected behavior in this method?

Is there any other method to achieve this?

Hello,

You would need an add-on for it like Power Scripts, ScriptRunner, Automation for Jira and so on.

If you use Automation Lite for Jira, then you do not need to write a script.

As @Alexey Matveev say you cannot do it outofthebox. If you re need  script for that ask another question after install any addons that Alexey offered :)
