Ack, Sorry, I misread the second part of the question (and status already appears in the issue view by default)

There's no way to display the sub-task status in the issue navigator because the issue navigator displays a list of issues.

There are some plugins which might help you show the list of sub-tasks (and hence their status), but I've not really seen a good way to do it, especially when an issue has more than a few sub-tasks.
