I've seen some threads with this same question, but I cannot put my hands around this automation. 

• I need to look at any epic that has a component value and is not complete or canceled. 
  • For those results I need to update any child issue under the epic (story, task, bug, subtask, etc) component to be same as in the epic

Hi John,

There is an open bug for html tags in the description field that you can find at JRASERVER-47679. One user added a workaround they've been using in their environment.  

Hopefully this helps. If that matches what you're experiencing please vote on the issue so we can get more attention on this issue.  If that's not what you're experiencing post a screenshot of what you're seeing so I can take a look.
