Issue counts for upcoming sprints incorrect

We use the Backlog view in JIRA Cloud to plan upcoming sprints. Until today, the number of issues planned for each sprint was correct, but as of today it seems to either be counting subtasks or something else, but the number has multiplied.  I use these numbers to quickly report on Sprint progress each week, but now that it's incorrect I'll have to manually count the stories or find another way.

Does anyone know if this was a purposeful change?

Please take a look at the KB: JIRA UI shows unreadable text or nothing on CAPTCHA and some gadgets due to missing fonts

This is a known issue that can effect some linux/unix operating systems that Jira might be running on.  Basically it boils down to some specific font packages could have been removed/uninstalled by operating system updates.   The KB has steps you can take to reinstall the packages that Jira is expecting to be present.  This should fix the problem, but if it does not, please let me know.
