Hello experts,
I'm new to JIRA so might be missing something obvious.
Business use case:
I need to generate a CSV containing a list of issues (similar to the export of "Base Project 3") which will then be sent to various teams and they would create + run projects using those issues. I need a template for the CSV which can be imported with minimal configuration, and eventually I will create an automated process to generate that CSV (outside of JIRA).
My idea was to create a sample project with the necessary issue types and parent links, export that to a CSV and import that CSV back into a new project. This way I can then work on generating the CSV in the required format.
Background:
I have a project called "Base Project 3" which defines a custom issue hierarchy above the epic. For reference, the issue hierarchy is "Deliverable 1" -> "Deliverable 2" -> "Deliverable 3".
I have added some issues in the project and configured the parents as applicable. The issues are named to indicate their issue type. Here's how the base project looks like in Advanced Roadmaps:
I exported this project to CSV with some selected fields, and it looks like this:
Problem:
I want to import the CSV exported above into a new project, called "Imported Project 2". I first created the project, and configured it to use the same issue type scheme. When I went ahead and imported it, I could not map the "Custom Field (Parent Link)" and "Issue Key" fields for some reason.
All the issues get imported with the correct issue types, but the parents are not set correctly. Instead, the issues map their parent issues to "Base Project 3".
How do I resolve this? Is admin access required for achieving the above (even though I have admin access)?
I am using a premium license and creating company-managed projects. I would prefer not to use any plugins to support this since that does not align with my organization's plans at the moment.
Thanks,
Rajat.
1. Can we integrate customized pages and workflow to JIRA?
Yes
2. How can we delete certain cases in JIRA?
Click delete (assumes you have granted "delete" permission to the user, and is strongly NOT recommended because delete really does mean delete - the issues are gone, completely, there's no way to get them back without days of work with a backup)
3. Can we have data visibility restriction based on product-client wise, also role-based?
Yes. With project permissions and issue level security.
4. Can we restrict graphs on showing the certain charts to specific users.
No. If you can see the data, you can report on it.
5. Escalation module present in your current version?
In Service Desk, yes
6. Can we integrate service that will read mails and extract case information and dump it in DB using IMAP/POP?
Yes
7. Can we send sms - alert and also push notifications?
If you have an SMS gateway you can use, yes.
8. Digital signature are included?
No, you'll need an add-on
9. Can we create Customized tables?
Yes
10. Kindly provide the details of PM Android / IOS app - what features it has?
See https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?product=jira&query=mobile
11. Does it have aging of cases included?
What do you want from "aging"? Jira tracks all changes so you always know how old an issue is, and when any change was made to it, so "aging" data is there. But we don't know what you want to do with it.
12. If i want to implement Issue tracking system - What would you recommend : I should purchase license for both Service Desk and Jira software?
Probably both - the functions you're asking about suggest you need both.
Thank you for your Answer. Can you please let me know if Jira provides read only rights to it's DB or not ? for us to make custom reports based on our needs.

No, of course not. It's a service, not a database tool.
You can, of course, connect to the database, but you REALLY do not want to. A Jira database is not designed for reporting and reading it directly is absolutely the worst possible way to do any reporting on Jira. Please, forget that idea, it's dreadful.

1. Can we integrate customized pages and workflow to JIRA?
Could you please elaborate more about Integrate? Customize pages nothing but what? Are you talking about Confluence pages then you can and Yes, you can import the existing Workflows.
2. How can we delete certain cases in JIRA?
What do you mean by Certain cases? In jira you can delete anything but for restoring it you should have the backup of it.
3. Can we have data visibility restriction based on product-client wise, also role-based?
Yes, using issue Security level you can achieve this.
4. Can we restrict graphs on showing the certain charts to specific users.
Nope, if you are talking about the sprint reports, then users belong to that particular group has the visibility of it.
5. Escalation module present in your current version?
You, need to customize your workflow to achieve this or you can use the Custom field.
6. Can we integrate service that will read mails and extract case information and dump it in DB using IMAP/POP?
If i understood this, i would say you can be able create a ticket/issue in jira whenever the mail will comes to specific ID, you need to configure the Incoming mail handler.
7. Can we send sms - alert and also push notifications?
For SMS notification you need to use third-party add-ons and If you have been configured SMTP mail server in jira then you will get an email notification from Jira.
8. Digital signature are included?
No Idea...
9. Can we create Customized tables?
Customized table? where? please provide more details.
10. Kindly provide the details of PM Android / IOS app - what features it has?
I would say there is no special features into it, but you can manage every type of project in jira.
11. Does it have aging of cases included?
No Idea.
12. If i want to implement Issue tracking system - What would you recommend : I should purchase license for both Service Desk and Jira software?
That depends on your requirements, If you are going to implement it for Customer/support based project then go for JSD and if you are looking for project management without exposing the jira to the customer then you can use Jira software.
