Jira wont start after reboot

Jason Saunders
May 21, 2023

We did Windows patching this weekend and Jira didn't restart after the reboot. Same patch works fine in our dev environment. We don't get the Jira start-up screen at all. This is Jira Server 9.4.1 w/ SQL Server database. I've tried the following suggestions from this article

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/troubleshoot-a-jira-data-center-server-startup-failed-error-394464512.html

Increased maximum memory pool RAM
Cleared plugin cache directories
Deleted disabled plugins from the pluginstate table
Removed plugins from installed plugins directory
Checked there is not lock file

Hello,

What was the template for the first project? It looks like an independent project, which is created by a user who does not have Jira Administration permissions.

Templates could be changed between Software, Service Desk and Business. This option is available in the Details tab.

Thank you so much for trying to help.

I am the admin, and I was the one who created the project. I don't remember which template I chose though

I did click into the project details, but the options are very limited. Please see screenshot.

I really appreciate the help!

You can not change an independent project to another project. You can create a new project and move issues from the old project to the new one.

How do I avoid creating an independent project? Because now when I choose to create a new project, I don't see the option to create an independent project. I just want to avoid making the same mistake again in the future.

Anyway, thanks for your help. Even though it will be manual, at least I got a solution.

NM. Got my own answer. I chose the Agility template, which is the only template you can create an independent project from.

Thanks, Alexey.

That is right. You can disable the independent project feature in the global permissions.

Hi Fiona,

Looking at the screenshot it seems that the project you have created is an independent project with the Agility template. As Alexey mentioned above, you cannot change an independent project to another template.

Independent projects with Agility template are a new feature in Jira Software that is still in beta testing. The main difference is that you don't have to be an administrator to create a project and the overall structure of the project is much simplified.

You can find more information about independent projects here and about the Agility template (the only one you can currently use with independent projects) here.
