Jira Automation: Slack is deprecating webhooks, how to send Slack message via Automation?

Hola!

Given Slack is deprecating webhooks, and they have a large, bold banner that says they do not recommend using them, my IT department is obviously cautious about creating new ones.

What are my options to send a Slack message from Jira Automation that does not require using a webhook?

This can also be done without the use of a plugin but there are a few restrictions.

  1. In the same Jira project create a scrum board for Squad A, B, C...etc.
  2. Also create a scrum board to contain the "rolled-up" burndown for each of the squads ensuring that items for Squad A, B, C...etc will also appear in the rolled up board. I would suggest using some criteria to differentiate the stories for each team like a label or custom field so that stories for one squad wont appear on the board for another squad.
  3. In the rolled up scrum board create Sprint 1
  4. Do sprint planning for each of the squads adding stores, tasks etc. using the rolled-up scrum board. This will add Sprint 1 on the meta board to the board for Squads A, B and C etc. Do not create any sprints directly on the squads individual boards.

This will allow you to use the Sprint burndown and all of the other reports on the rolled-up scrum board and it will return the rolled-up burndown and velocity, but also use the burndown and velocity reports on each of the individual boards.

The one restriction is that the sprint dates will have to be the same for each squad as they will effectively be using the same sprint. Also, you should only create sprints on the rolled-up scrum board.

I hope this helps, I have tested this myself as we are about to start using it and it does work. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @Udo Berninger,

Yes, this is possible with our Great Gadgets app.

See this article for how to do it:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Marketplace-Apps-Integrations/Creating-a-cross-teams-release-burndown-chart-in-Jira-with-Great/ba-p/1803421

Also, you could try Kanban Velocity gadget for obtaining the "aggregated" velocity.

Thank you,

Hi @Mohamed Haj Hamido,

Yes, this is possible.

Create a filter in Jira that returns the tasks across all the projects that you want to monitor. Then configure a Release Burnup Burndown Chart gadget to use this filter and you will have the chart displayed on your dashboard.

If you need assistance in configuring this, please contact support@stonikbyte.com.
