As mentioned above, Is the Enhanced Jira board and backlog going to be enforced? Otherwise, is there any way to avoid having that update? We didn't particularly like it; the performance feels slow, and it doesn't allow us to do certain stuff like control + f to search for issues.

There is no option to disable this functionality on id.atlassian.com. When we upload a profile picture, it actually gets stored in Gravatar and not in Atlassian. So, the size of the image that you can upload is specified on the gravatar documentation:
