I would like to tally story points for sub-tasks other than Done.

Currently, the change in the value of a subtask's story point triggers the sum of the subtask's story pon the parent task's story point in an automated manner. At this time, is it possible to sum the story points of tasks other than those with a status of Done?

The Story Points custom field is not configured as Global Context or Story is not configured as Chosen Applicable Issue Types.

Resolution

1. Go to JIRA Administration > Issues > Fields > Custom Field.

2. Find the Story Points custom fields and click on the "Cog" icon then select "Configure".

3. Edit the Configuration and set the Context to Global Context or select Story on "Choose Applicable Issue Types".
    The default issue types is Epic and Story.
4. Click Modify and do a Re-index.

I went into the field configuration in JIRA and it is already set to Global Context.  

I'm still getting the same issue the user is having where when I commit changes the points aren't coming over.  I've not changed anything about the fields.
