We use JIRA to track time and create Epics and Stories under a Project. We link the stories using the linked issues field. I have 2 questions. 1. What is the difference between using "contains in" versus "relates to" in linked issues? 2. When we are logging time to an issue, we would like the time logged to roll up to the Epic or a project to figure out the total time spent on the Epic or Project. Which "linked issue" dropdown should I use for the time to roll up to the highest level issue type, ie: Epic or Project? Thank you

Hello,

Technically there is no difference between "contains in" and "relates to" links. They are just links. They do not contain any code behind them. Links are for users to understand business purpose of the link.

Out of the box only subtasks can be summed up to the parent task.

You can not do it out of the box. Maybe there is a plugin available. Look at the Portfolio plugin.
