Progress Bar for Timeline

ORM February 19, 2024

I wanted to bring the progress bar in the timeline view. This needs to come up. Some documentation mentions ticking the progress box in view settings.  I can't even see this option even with an admin login.

We have the premium version.

Progress is fundamental for any timeline. I would appreciate it if someone could point to the steps. Timeline is set up with project epics that have child issues/sub-tasks.

Hi @ORM

It's Mary from Planyway timeline for Jira

To display the progress bar in the Timeline view in Jira, especially when you're working with project epics and their child issues or sub-tasks, you typically need to ensure that your settings are properly configured to show this information. Given that you're using the premium version of Jira, you should have access to advanced roadmapping features, which include progress tracking on the timeline.

However, if you're not seeing the option to enable the progress bar, there could be a few reasons for this, including interface updates or specific configuration settings that might be obscuring the option. Here's a general approach to troubleshooting and attempting to enable the progress bar for your Timeline view:

  1. Check Your Permissions: Even though you have admin access, double-check that you have the necessary permissions to modify the board or project settings. Sometimes, specific permissions may be required to see or change certain settings.

  2. Access Board or Project Settings: Navigate to your board or project settings where the Timeline view is configured. This is typically found in the project settings for next-gen (now called team-managed) projects or in the board settings for classic (now called company-managed) projects.

  3. Look for Roadmap or Timeline Settings: Once in the settings, look for sections related to the Roadmap or Timeline. In some cases, the setting to display progress might not be explicitly labeled as such, or it might be part of the "Fields" or "View settings" options.

  4. Advanced Roadmaps Configuration (if applicable): If you're using Advanced Roadmaps (part of Jira Software Premium), you might need to configure your plan settings. Advanced Roadmaps offers more detailed control over how progress is calculated and displayed. Look for "Plan settings" or similar options within the Advanced Roadmaps section.

Hi @ORM , what do you mean exactly by progress bar? Can you share the link to the documentation you are referring to? Here is one doc discussing what the timeline view shows - what-is-the-roadmap
