Permissions of searching non project related persons

Tim Schempp December 3, 2019

Hi experts,

we are having different customer projects organized in Jira Software.

Currently users of a certain project, can search for names in the standard search and in the assign-search (eye symbol) for people, that are not related to their own company / project.

Even if they are not able to assign them, we do not want them to see foreign project members.

My first attempt was, to remove users out of the 'global permission' 'Browse users and groups'.

If I do so, they are not able to search for any users anymore, not even users of their own project.

Any ideas, how to setup these permissions correctly?

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Kind regards

Tim

Hello Tim,

Welcome to Atlassian Community.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to restrict the system user picker fields (Reporter or assignee) to return users only from a specific project role/group in Jira, however, we clearly understand and agree with you that it would be an useful feature when you want to keep the anonymity of users in different projects.

That being said, we have a feature request opened to implement this functionality:

Limit User Picker to members of certain groups/roles in System Fields

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

Although it would not be a very good workaround due to the dedicated filters and functionality for the assignee and reporter fields, user picker custom fields can be configured with this kind of restriction, as mentioned here.

Let us know if you still have any questions.
