Password Policy for Jira

Andrews July 7, 2020

I want to know the feasibility on password complexity enforcement for Internal users.

The Jira password policy is disabled by default why because my Jira is connected to an external user management system Microsoft Active Directory.

I want to implement the password policy for my Internal Jira users So if i enabled the password policy then it will impact to my external users as well?

Please suggest me.

JIRA System will have User Directories in User Management session.

You can add multiple directories.

Only need to remember the user name should be unique.

If any person is duplicated, then based on order of the directories, password will be different.

Other user in the directory is disabled.

You have option to manager "Jira Internal Directory" for local users.

And for system settings --> password policy, choose the complex password setup.

(Password Policy is applicable only to Internal Directory. Not applicable for AD Integrations)

By external users you mean all the other AD users, or users that don't have an account in AD?

For the AD users.

In my instance internal users are 40 and external users (Integrated with MSAD) - 1000

I want to implement the password policy for 40 users (Internal).
