One Project with multiple teams and each team needs separate sprint /board

Deleted user August 7, 2021

Hi

We have multiple teams in our project and the requirement is to have parallel active sprints and boards for each team from one backlog

There will never be shared story between teams. Can someone please let me know what settings to be configures in JIRA for the following

1. How to Create team names and associate with sprints

2. How to setup active sprint for each team?

3. process to set up sprint durations?

4. How to set up multiple active scrum/kanban boards in one project

Thanks

Hi @[deleted]

  1. You can't associate anything with sprints directly. You can associate issues to sprint. And you can associate fields to issues. Therefore my solution would be:
    1. I would create a group field called Team
    2. I would create groups under user management with the team names
    3. Inside these groups I would add the team members
    4. I would place this field in the appropriate created/view/edit screens
    5. I would carefully choose the teams to all issues of the corresponding sprint
  2. Create as many sprints as your teams. Then create the sprint backlog from the product backlog for each team (enable parallel sprints from the product settings)
  3. Each sprint, once started, can set its duration
  4. You can create multiple scrum/kanban board, but each of them will have their own backlog. You could try to create a JQL for each board to include e.g. all unassigned stories plus all stories assigned to their team.

Hope that make sense.

Hey @Alex Koxaras -Relational- ,

If you utilise the parallel sprints feature to have concurrent sprints for each team, will velocity be available per team or the "teams overall"?

Thanks,

Rich

@Rich Hinchley it will be overall and not by (smaller) teams. Jira will consider the project as a team with no distinction. Unfortunately there is no option in the report to have this functionality. Perhaps in the future.
