Not receiving email notifications from Jira

I have started manually tracking the progress of tickers through my teams jira board. I am returning from a 3 week holiday and wanted to use the notifications I usually get (when an assignee is changed, ticket changes status etc.) It isn't something I have greatly paid attention to but in the process of looking back retrospectively it seems I only get notifications for some tickets. I can't see what would cause this. Can anyone help?

Hey! If you're doing this manually, is it possible that you're not watching/subscribed to each ticket?
