Non-Users Submit bugs to Next Gen Project

Scott Gray July 7, 2020

Hi Folks,

We're starting to do some internal to our organization (but not the dev team) testing. And we'd really like a way for them to be able to submit a bug directly to our backlog without having to give everyone JIRA access. We are using next gen projects so the issue collector isn't an option apparently. Is there some other way to do this?

(Sorry, I misread your question and assumed you were using a service desk project since you mentioned issue collectors. If you're using a standard Jira software next-gen project, this answer will not work for you.)

When you say you don't want to give everyone access to Jira, is it that you don't want to provide licenses to everyone, or that you don't want them to have to log in in any way?

If you don't want them to have to log in at all, that's a little harder to manage, since you'd need to have your dangerous, since it means anyone (internal or not) who manages to get their hands on your portal's URL can submit tickets.

If you are OK with users needing to log in, but don't want to provide user licenses (or access to other Jira projects) they just need to be set up as service desk customers.

Go to Project Settings -> Channels -> Customer Permissions and set the "Who can access the portal" radio to "customers my team adds".

Then go back to the main project sidebar and click Customers. You can then click Add Customers and enter the email addresses of the users you want to be able to submit tickets. If you want to compartmentalize users, you can set up multiple Organizations, and add customers to those. That will allow tickets to be shared between users of the organization (if a tester from Dept. A submits a bug, then other customers in that org can be notified and follow the progress of the bug. This can prevent duplicates when you have multiple people seeing the same issue and not knowing that it's already been reported.)
