Make testing phase mandatory before putting ticket in "Done"

Hello!

I have a following question: currently my board contains columns like "To do", "In progress", "Testing", "Done". I would like to make testing phase mandatory, which means no one can put ticket directly in done, firstly it need to get to "Testing".

How can I do that?

Hi @sanda ,

Team-managed project or Company-managed project?

Hello!

It's a Company-managed project.

Delete all status can transition to 'Done', then add the transition from testing to done.

Hello once again Ollie, just managed to fix everything - needed to play a bit with other statuses and entire workflow as well.

Thank you for the help!

Hi Sanda - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You just need to modify your workflow to make your transitions more linear - from one step (status) the next and not use the ALL transitions.

Hello John!

Thank you for the answer! Do I need to create this transition from "In Progress" to "Testing"?

Yes, depending on what your workflow looks like. Can you post a screenshot of your workflow diagram?

Sure, currently it looks like this:

Hi @sanda

As others have pointed out, what you're asking for is the core functionality of workflows - by managing transitions you can make it so that some statuses can only be reached from their respective predecessors.

I'd like to use this occasion to recommend our Issue Checklist for Jira Free (or Pro) as it expands on the idea - with a Checklist Completed validator provided by our app, you can not only make sure that the issue was in Testing before Done, but also that all the necessary steps in testing were made - by putting them on a checklist and then enabling that validator.

If this draws your interest, please feel free to ask questions here or reach out to our support team.

Cheers!
