Make attachment required on JIRA Work Management form?

Hello,

As the title describes, I am looking for a way to require an attachment as part of form submission for a team-managed JIRA Work Management project.

I have already reviewed the following help article "Manage your form fields" and tried the following:

  •  Under project settings, issue types, for my specific issue type there is no "attachment" field to drag and then check the "required" checkbox (though I am able to do that for existing custom fields or my project specific created fields)
  • Under field configurations, there is no "required" option for the attachments system field (though most other custom and standard fields can be set to required via field configuration

So I am 99% sure this is not possible but hoping some others can confirm OR provide some workarounds.

Thanks!

Hello @Julio Verano

Are you using a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information will show at the bottom of the panel on the left.

Your first point bullet point makes me think that you are working with a Team Managed project, as those options are not available in a Company Managed project.

In which case your second bullet point about Field Configurations is not applicable as Field Configurations apply only to Company Managed projects.

In either case I think that requiring Attachments for creation of a Work Management issue might only be enforceable through the workflow.

Looking specifically at the Create transition for JWM in a Team Managed project it does not appear that you there is a Rule available to set a field as required, though there is a variation of that rule for other transitions within the workflow.

It is possible to modify the Create transition in a Company Managed project to make Attachments required for issue creation. I'm not sure how that would actually manifest when using a Form to create an issue for a Work Management project.

Yes this is a team-managed project.

In editing the workflow rules, I confirmed there is no rule currently available on create transition to validate a field.

Also here is no workflow under "workflows" in administration that is available to be modified (assume only available for company managed projects) and possibly added a validation on the create transition.

I suppose if a new "validation rule" was added which included an attachment, and was respected when creating via the form would be one new feature that could have solved this.

Or alternatively, in the Issue types field setup, being able to find/select "attachment" and check off required (as is available when adding custom fields from that area) as I mentioned in my description.

Given that you are using a Team Managed project it seems that at this time there is not a solution to your need.

You could consider creating a Company Managed project and moving your issues to that, and then modify the workflow for that Company Managed project to require an attachment through the Validators of the Create transition. As I am not sure if that would be respected through a Form, I recommend that you try it with a test project first before actually moving issues from your Team Managed project to a new Company Managed project.

You could also contact Atlassian support to see if they can provide any information about related features being planned for the Team Managed projects.
