Jira workflow moves where a prompt used to appear

Doug Shufelt August 30, 2021

Hello everyone, we transitioned to cloud earlier this year and in doing so lost a functionality that opened a prompt that needed to be completed when an issue was moved from in-process to resolved and from resolved to closed.  Does anyone know what that feature setting is in cloud so that we can use it again?

Ok so it sounds like there's an issue with the transition screen setup in the workflow.  How do you confirm if a transition screen already exists or more importantly create one?  Does it have to been defined for each move or can one general one apply to all?

Hey @Doug Shufelt and welcome to the community!

The behaviour you are describing sounds to me like a transition screen.

Transition screens are attached to your workflow transition and will then pop up to request information (such as a resolution)

I suggest for you to look on your workflows and see if there is a screen defined on the transition. This isn't really a feature you can enable/disable, it might be that something was removed from your workflow.

Since you move to Cloud, I'm assuming you use company managed projects?

Thanks for replying - yes company managed projects.

What should I look for in the workflow to determine if there is a screen defined as part of the transition?  What am I looking for?  Also can one general transition be established for all moves or does it need to be done one by one?

Edit the workflow, and find the arrow that represents the transition.  Click on it, and you'll get the config box where you can amend screens, post-functions, validators etc.

Yes, you can make global transitions (you'll see those as a black starting status of "All") or have shared ones (where a couple of status can move to another by using the same transition)

Hello Nic,

Attached are pictures of our workflow (old and new).  What am I missing for the transition on the new workflow as we still aren't be prompted?  Old workflow.PNGNew workflow.PNG

You need to add a transition screen to it (and probably all the ones that go into resolved or closed)

This sounds like it was a "transition screen" - you set these up in the workflow, it's a simple "what screen (list of fields) to display while someone is moving an issue from one status to another"
