Jira auto-assigns the ticket to me when I move it to in progress

The ticket will already have an engineer assinged to it, and as the project manager, I'll move tickets from "open" to "in progress". Jira then un-assigns the engineer from the assignee and assigns me to it.

I checked Automations and it doesn't seem like we have any automation rules that are causing this. I checked workflows and it also seemed like nothing was out of the ordinary.

Hello @Melissa Milligan

Did you check issue history to see who changed the assignee?

When you transition the issue, did you check automation rules audit log to see if any automation has executed?

Are you sure a workflow that issue type is using has no post-functions on that transition?

If you use Scriptrunner, do you have any scripts?

And maybe if you use Components, are you default assignee for any component?

Best regards,

Marko Blagus

@Melissa Milligan being the PM it's likely the later of what Marko mentioned. Component/s can have a default assignee and in your role, you might be set as the default assignee of a Component.

That's under your project settings if you have access.

I'm not sure if it's any of these. I checked all 4 options and they all seem like default settings to me. Even in the components, there are 2 default assignees for "project default", but it doesn't automatically assign it to those people when moved from "to do" to "in progress". It default assigns it to whoever is moving the ticket.
