Jira Insight: Created Objects are not seen

Alexander Müller July 5, 2021

Hello all,

we just have started to use Insight to create our CMDB for the company. I was creating in the last days couple of new objects and new dependencies. I created on Friday some, Saturday I coulndt see them anymore. Yesterday I created new Routers in one object but today they are also gone. I dont see something is wrong with my view. Any suggestions, what I should check on? I got the role of the admin just a couple of days ago because some people left the company....

Hi @Alexander Müller ,

items that vanish without a reason would be extremely weird!

  • Do you use only Jira software or also Jira Service Management (JSM)?
  • Did you have Insight installed before they changed to JSM? If so it could be you have 2 versions of Insight installed. The integrated one and the standalone app.. That might be the confusion as those databases aren't shared

Hello, we are using the JSM + Jira Software. The Goal from the proper IT-Manager was, to have Insights as central place of truth and connect this database to JSM + Jira for IT-Service, Dev-Ops and IT-Buying. Sadly, we have to start all over because the knowledge is gone - aynway. Time to learn something new ;-)

As far as I know, they used to have Insight as a standalone application before it got bought by atlassian, then it was suddently integrated with all the data we had before.

@Alexander Müller well it was indeed integrated in to the platform but it is a different app.

So the data isn't migrated automatically.

As you had the app before you will have the 2 apps installed now and you will need to migrate the data.

Thank you, I think I got it. Seems like the is Insight under >Apps and then another Insight in the Main Menue. I will remove the App Insight, because it looks like it has an old stand of the inventory. Should be 95 % duplicates.

In the main menu normally that should be the new integrated one.

You also notice the new one has a "Services" schema that you cannot edit (it's linked to the Service Registry on the JSM projects).

There are plans to come up with a data migration tool but that's under development and I believe the latest news was that it would come sometimes summer 2021 (but don't hold me to that)
