Hi All,
Our team uses "Reports and Timesheets" app for our time tracking needs. Does anyone know if there is a way to use an external time tracking app and add logged time of a ticket into a custom field?
We link tickets together in a child/parent relationship and want to find a way to sum the total logged hours of each child ticket to a parent ticket.
Thanks,
Raquel
Hi Raquel,
I understand you're using this app by Appfire? Maybe reaching out to them for support on how best to approach it is the preferred way to tackle this.
If you are considering other third-party apps, there is a question I'd like to ask: Do you need that value to be saved in a custom field?
At least some of the time-tracking apps in the Marketplace (including Clockwork Pro by my team, the HeroCoders) support displaying the value of time tracked on child issues in the parent issue's view and in timesheet breakdown. The value can be included in exported reports as well.
Would seeing the value and being able to export it satisfy your needs? Or do you need other features like JQL search ability against the total time tracked, which indeed requires a custom field to store that number?
I'm asking because I do not know of any app that stores that value in a custom field (that is not to say such an app does not exist). I also do not know of a good way to handle this with automation rules, because from my experience it's very hard if not impossible to cover all the use cases like editing and deleting worklogs by users.
If you have any questions, I'm happy to discuss this further.
Cheers!
Yes I am using that app from Appfire for time tracking. No, the value does not need to be in a custom field.
I will reach out to Appfire to see if they can help.
We are trying to solve our unique situation where we do not use subtasks yet need to see all the time for the tickets that are linked in a parent/child relationship within the parent ticket. Appfire did this for subtasks but do not for linked tickets.
If you have any other suggestions in how to achieve this, I would love to hear it.
