Hi @sakthivel-systech

It is possible to upgrade from Jira 6 to Jira 8, however we would not recommend that you attempt this in a single upgrade.  Instead we would recommend that you first upgrade to a 7.0.x version of Jira.

This is noted in our documentation in Skipping major versions when upgrading JIRA applications.  It is very important to do  this upgrade first, and then update all the plugins you have in Jira on this version in order to make sure that this plugin data can be updated successfully.  This is very important for both Jira Service Desk and Jira Agile (aka Jira Software).   Failure to do this step could result in a failed upgrade.

If you are looking to migrate a specific project, then the guide in Restoring a project from backup would be helpful.  However this guide too warns against attempting to import project data from a different version of Jira than the version in the destination Jira site.

Project import restrictions

The Project Import tool will only import a project between identical instances of Jira. That is;

  • The version of Jira in which your backup was created must be identical to the version of your target Jira instance, e.g. if your backup file was created in Jira 6.4, then your target instance of Jira must be version 6.4.

Once Jira is upgraded to the same version as the destination, you can then consider following the project restoration guide above.

I hope this helps.

Andy
