Integration test for custom mailhandler

Hi there, does anybody know a how-to, tutorial, etc, that descibes how to do automatic integration tests for a custom mail handler? How can i simulate an incoming email? Are there test-framework functions to add an sample.msg file to "jira\home\import\mail" or does the integration-test goal starts an smptp server? Any ideas ?
