How to remove User icon in some Jira Board of the User which Atlassian account was deleted?

Rok Kokalj August 17, 2021

After we delete the User from all of our accounts, their icons can still be viewed among users of a Project that was created by that User... How can we remove it, as also name and surname are displayed...

The avatar should disappear if there are no issues assigned to the individual. Try to find all issues assigned to this person reassign them or set them to unassigned and see if that resolves your issue.

Thank you for the fast reply. The thing is they do not exist in the system anymore, well, we can't see them among Atlassian users in User managements under Atlassian Admin. They were deleted.... Any other thoughts? Thank you.

Warning soapbox… deleting users = very bad. sad

Can you construct a JQL that represents your current board and use that in advance search. I would like to determine what is showing in the assignee field for this deleted user. Ultimately there must be an issue that has a trace of this user in the assignee field. If we can find these issues then we can reassign them to a current user or mark them unassigned.

Sorry, you were right with the first answer. They indeed had open issues. But shouldn't these issues be set to Unassigned when deleting former employees?

And also, all issues with status DONE also have to be reassigned if we want that past user to disappear...

So, some users have a bulk of tasks, that are quite nonsense to reassign one by one. Can we do reassigning all its tasks to the new users with one move? Thank you.

  • Should they be set to unassigned - well yes that would be nice but not how it works unfortunately
  • Done issues - yes indeed. This is one of the reasons why you don't delete users. Deleting user is fundamentally does not go and clean up everything associated with that user.
  • Bulk update - you can use the book edit feature in the advanced search screen. If you can create a JQL that finds all issues assigned to that individual then you can use the bulk edit to set them to unassigned. You may also want to clean up any issues that usually reported.

Ok, understand, thank you. But still, what to do with people not employed any more. We don't want them in the system, as well, it is an unnecessary cost for the company?

If you revoke access they do not count towards your licenses.

Thank you. Just one more thing. What about Confluence, are you familiar with it. On pages exists icons of former employees. Can that be changed somehow?

I use Confluence but am not immediately familiar with this.

OK, thank you very much for all your support. Should I click "Accept answer" as I'm not familiar with the purpose of that function on this forum....
