How to login with JIRA username?

In our JIRA cloud environment users login with email. We are attempting to use REST API from another application to create JIRA ticket but for some reason the application will only allow usernames and not email address (assuming originally intended for server version?).

Is there anyway to allow login with username as well?

This is one difference between Cloud and Server. Email addresses work in Cloud, because this is the main identification managed by id.atlassian.com. In Jira server you have to take the 'username'.

Thanks for reply. So it sounds like using usernames for login on JIRA cloud is not possible. If that's the case I will look into using a server version. Thanks
